Jeffrey D. Sachs (born November 5, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan) is a Jewish-American economist known for his work as an economic adviser to governments within Latin America, Eastern Europe, the previous Soviet Union, Asia, and Africa. He proposed shock therapy (though he himself hates a term) as a guide to the economic crises of Bolivia, Poland, and Russia.
